God Resists The Proud
No kidding… He resists the proud. The problem is we don’t think we are proud. But as we pointed out yesterday, the pride of life is quite pervasive. It’s in everything we think and do one way or another. Even me saying that will bristle against most of you reading this.
So today I want to focus on an area that has to do with taking credit for things. I have learned over my many years, that as it says in the book of Ecclesiastes, that there is nothing new under the sun. God is the origin of everything so I really can’t take credit for anything. Along with that I learned; “the more I know, the less I know.” Why? I can never know everything.
Then; ” If I can maintain a posture of “not knowing anything – I am a candidate for everything.” (One of my favorites).
Interestingly, people always want to give me credit for things… concepts, wisdom, understanding, etc. As if these things were generated from me. They are not, they are simply the Wisdom of God in packages that land in peoples hearts and lives in such a way that it brings the help they need. Even the ability to put those pieces together to help that person comes from God.
Here are two powerful scriptures to demonstrate my point today:
1 Cor. 4:7
“Who do you think you are? Everything you have was given to you. So, if everything you have was given to you, why do you act as if you got it all by your own power?”
Doesn’t get much clearer than that, eh? Or does it?
Proverbs 26:12 New International Version (NIV)
“Do you see a person wise in their own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for them.”
Who do you think you are?
