Joy and happiness are wonderful feelings to experience, but are very different. Joy is more consistent and is cultivated internally. It comes when you make peace with who you are, with God, and why you are and how you are.
Whereas happiness tends to be externally triggered and is based on other people, things, places, circumstances, thoughts and events.
God wants us to have sustained optomistic hope, peace and confidence in His faithfulness that create …Joy.
In the Bible we are told that ” The Joy of the Lord is our strength.”
What does that mean? It means that we know, even when circumstances are not conducive to us being “happy”, we still have joyful confidence that God will work all things to the good.
We have joy because we know that he will continue to be faithful in this life and the next, if He is our confidence.
We have joy because He loves us.
We have joy because our sins are forgiven in Christ.
We have joy in the midst of struggles and trials because we know that he will bring us out the other side in a greater place than we were before.
John 16:33 GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
33 I’ve told you this so that my peace will be with you. In the world you’ll have trouble. But cheer up, take joy, I have overcome the world.”
