Root Systems and Anger

I have always had an issue with merely “managing” anger. It’s part of “coping and hoping”. It doesn’t really deal with the underlying issues causing the anger, you just learn “coping” skills to “manage” your anger.

I believe there is a better way. Taking our thoughts captive and excavating the layers of emotional and spiritual brokenness inside our hearts. That’s the only way you will master your emotions.

Enter into a process of discovery of why you are angry. The other day I shared that control was my main driving force, especially as a Melancholy compulsive in control. But there is even more to it than that. Take a look at the illustration that demonstrates the levels of my anger.

If we don’t enter a process of excavation to unearth the reasons why we ultimately deal with anger and even rage, by only dealing with the surface levels, it’s like mowing the lawn expecting the weeds to go away. The look even with the grass… until tomorrow… they are the first thing to come up because they have deeper roots than the grass, and draw from the bad soil below the surface.

In the next few days we will be looking at these layers in more detail so we can help you to take a closer look than mere “management” of your anger. Your layers may look a little different but they are really having the same effect either way. Get ready for deep diving into your baggage.
