Emotional Pain in Your Life

Are you manifesting symptoms of emotional pain that you haven’t recognized in your heart? Are you aware of pain in your life, but just don’t know what to do about it?  We need to learn how to become aware of emotional pain and learn what we can do to productively heal and grow.

It is very common that if someone has a physical wound or injury, they find ways to get medical attention, so that the issue can be treated properly. But emotional wounds tend to fester undetected and untreated. We either don’t know how to recognize emotional pain or we don’t know what to do with the pain we experience in life. Most likely it is a combination of both. 

In our work, a big part of identifying areas of emotional pain is in working on root systems – the topic of our upcoming EIS event.

Signals of Emotional Pain

Emotional pain can often be signal in our life that something needs to be dealt with in our hearts. There are various signs that emotional pain is manifesting: 

  • Relational disconnection 
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Numbness
  • Isolation
  • Addictions
  • Restlessness
  • Irritability and anger
  • Mood swings
  • Sleep issues
  • Excessive drivenness & intense striving for achievement
  • Obsessive and/or compulsive thinking patterns and behaviors
  • Perfectionism
  • Chronic busyness 

But it is also important to recognize what pain is. Emotional pain often involves two areas: 1) Negative experiences that happened to you or 2) Positive experiences you needed that did not occur in your life. This is where the need for forgiveness, and releasing of judgements becomes evident.

Poor Responses to Pain

There are various ways we can respond to pain that are unhealthy. We can deny any existence of pain, live with a “stiff upper lip” and just keep plowing forward, developing more and more “coping and hoping” mechanisms. Many others can become permanently victimized by their pain, and get lost in the chaos and confusion. A large percentage of people seek to numb out and check out from any pain by activity that disconnects them from reality.
