The Weight

Is this how you feel?

When we carry the weight of our lives on our shoulders, it can feel like what this picture depicts. But we were not designed to live like this.

Matthew 11 Says this:

28-30 “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

Genuine faith can bring the desired relief, but how? One way is to relieve your heavy load by forgiving people in your life that have hurt you. Conversely, you can seek forgiveness from God for the things you have done in your life. The internal weight of guilt and shame are very heavy and must be dealt with effectively or they remain. But worse, is that it is like a rolling stone collecting moss. Leaving it inside sounds like a good idea… lets just leave it there… it’s fine in there. If it was like that it might not be so bad.

But it’s not.

It will accumulate more and more as guilt and resentment, as covered over as it may be, it continues to shadow you in your current relationships. Shame obscures the real and authentic self waiting to emerge from behind the veil of pride. Forgiving yourself and others, releasing judgements in your heart towards others, is necessary to be relieved of this weight. Showing mercy towards oneself and others liberates you from no longer carrying the guilt into the future. Confessing to another and to God will seal these realities in your heart through faith. Find peace today.
