This is a truth that interestingly is misunderstood, and under utilized. Largely, I believe, because we do not understand love in the first place.
For example, love, is many times equated with mushy, romantic notions that are warm and fuzzy. Or, those who believe in God would say God IS Love. But what does that mean? And in order to most aptly describe “love”, we might quote the notable passage in 1 Corinthians 13… you know, the one that you give in a frame as a wedding gift, because it’s so poetic and beautiful. (Unfortunately, since people don’t really understand what it means, they are not likely to operate in it’s power.
Here it is:
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love Never Fails
Love is something that actually embodies the character of God. Read it again. It’s selfless. It’s for the other. It’s persevering. It honors. It trusts, hopes. And it protects.
In a recent meeting I attended, we were endeavoring to deal with certain “issues”, areas of disagreement, discord, etc. We set out to sort out the points that were brought to the table. After a while, what was revealed, was that one of the attendees was in need of something more than just a successful meeting. They were in need of Love, with a capital L. As the meeting progressed, and as this was revealed, all involved were touched by love. Tears, great degrees of understanding, empathy, compassion and a rallying around the person to be sure that the real, underlying issues could be addressed, and that the well being of the person was paramount.
Love indeed, never fails. When you are a “doer” of love, it has tangible results that can be life transforming. Without this main ingredient, you are left with, trying to figure it all out, and come up with answers that “make sense”, compliance, etc. Not to say these things are not important, but there is a deeper place many times that needs to be reached. When it is, all things become clear, hearts can align, and genuine pathways to change can be illuminated because love was incorporated.
