Choice

All the way back in the bible in the book of Deuteronomy, we are told to “choose life”. Not to choose “death”. What does this implicate?

It has always struck me that God literally has to tell us to choose life – because we so often choose things in life that do not bring life , but “death”. Bad choices in relationships, moral choices of integrity, character attributes and morality as a whole, all bring spiritual “death”, which bring ruin of the soul, hardness of the heart, ego, self absorption and a lack of prosperity.

So why would we choose “death” over life? And what then is life? Life is joy, peace, prosperity, moral wellness, clean heart and conscience, emotional health, spiritual health, and more. This is God’s intention.

So it remains that we have choices to make every day, in every area that will take us in one direction or another. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that bad choices bring bad results. Elementary. But the deception comes from ego. Ego and leaning on our own understanding, can lead us to make flawed decisions and choices. Where we might think it’s a clear choice of right and wrong, one will choose rightly, and one will choose wrongly.

Why?

The position of the heart. The one who knows the end of the decisions they make will bring life or death, will likely choose things that bring life and prosperity. The one who thinks they know better, may well choose wrongly, leading to poor outcomes.

The choice is ours.
